The Punjab government has officially announced four-day public holidays across the province on the occasion of Eid-ul-Adha, under which all provincial and local government offices will remain closed on the specified days.
According to an official notification issued by the Services and General Administration Department (SGA&D), these Eid-ul-Adha holidays will begin on Tuesday, May 26, and continue till Friday, May 29, 2026. This decision will be applicable to all civil secretariats, autonomous bodies, and semi-government offices across Punjab, where normal office work will remain suspended during this period.
The official notification clarified that all administrative and office activities at the provincial level will remain closed during these four days from Tuesday to Friday, however, law and order maintenance and emergency services will remain on alert as usual. The Services Department has issued instructions to all concerned departments to complete all their urgent and pending office work before the commencement of the holidays so that the public does not face any kind of inconvenience.
According to administrative sources, the government’s decision is part of its policy to provide citizens with adequate time to visit their native places and attend family gatherings on the occasion of the religious festival of Eid-ul-Adha. In this regard, the provincial administration has also issued special guidelines to transport authorities and railway authorities so that passengers do not face any disruption in the provision of travel facilities or collection of excessive fares.
In addition, the notification has ordered the district administration and sanitation agencies, especially solid waste management companies, to prepare a special plan for the Eid days. In light of the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister, the leaves of the staff have been cancelled to ensure timely disposal of garbage and keep the cities clean during Eid.
A government spokesperson says that ensuring public safety and uninterrupted provision of local government facilities is the first priority on Eid-ul-Adha. Therefore, monitoring cells have been established in all major cities, including the provincial capital, to deal with any emergency situation during the four-day-long holidays, which will operate around the clock.
