The benchmark KSE-100 Index at the Pakistan Stock Exchange experienced a dramatic drop during Monday’s trading session, reflecting strong downward pressure across key sectors of the market.
The index opened at 150,174.10 points, indicating a stable start to the trading day. However, the market soon began to decline as selling activity intensified.
Throughout the session, the index continued to slide and eventually reached an intraday low of 144,119.44 points, highlighting the level of volatility present in the market.
At the close of trading, the index settled at 146,480.15 points, representing a drop of 11,015.95 points, or 6.99 per cent.
Trading activity remained relatively strong, with index constituent volumes reaching around 378.01 million shares.
Several major companies played a critical role in pushing the market downward.
Among the biggest draggers was FFC, which reduced the index by 1,480.75 points. Another significant contributor to the decline was UBL, which accounted for 1,199.20 negative points.
Other companies also influenced the market’s performance. ENGRO contributed -626.05 points, while HUBC and LUCK contributed -603.37 and -570.17 points, respectively.
In contrast, positive contributions to the index were limited. PGLC was among the few stocks supporting the market, adding only 0.22 points.
Despite the sharp daily decline, the broader performance of the KSE-100 Index still shows mixed results.
The fiscal year-to-date return stands at 16.60 per cent, indicating that the market has produced gains since the start of the fiscal year.
However, the calendar year-to-date return is currently negative at -15.84 per cent, reflecting the challenges faced by the market during the early part of 2026.
The Pakistan Stock Exchange remains one of the most important financial institutions in the country. Its benchmark index is widely used as an indicator of economic sentiment and investor confidence.
Daily movements in the index can influence investor behaviour and shape expectations about the broader economic outlook.
As trading continues in the coming days, investors will be observing whether the market begins to recover or whether volatility remains a key feature of the current trading environment.
