A slight decline in poultry prices was seen in Lahore today, while prices in fruit and vegetable markets remained mixed.

According to the latest market data, live chicken is available at Rs 318 per kilogram while chicken meat is available at Rs 461 per kilogram. The price of eggs is stable at Rs 315 per dozen, providing temporary relief to consumers amid rising food inflation.

Prices in fruit markets remained mostly stable. Dates are being sold at Rs 190 to 270 per kilogram, guava at Rs 75, papaya at Rs 220, grapes at Rs 155, chaku at Rs 160, banana at Rs 110 and mountain black apples at Rs 245 per kilogram.

Meanwhile, the vegetable market witnessed more volatility. Essential vegetables like tomato are priced at Rs 240 per kilogram and onion at Rs 220 – both higher than last week. Ginger and garlic are being sold at Rs 500 and Rs 440 per kg respectively.

Other important vegetables include bitter gourd (karela) at Rs 260, green chillies at Rs 120 and capsicum at Rs 335 per kg. Common items like potatoes and turnips are relatively cheaper at Rs 35 and Rs 32 per kg, while cabbage and cauliflower are priced at Rs 35 and Rs 21.

Traders attribute the recent price fluctuations to the disruption in the supply chain from rural developing areas, along with rising fuel and transportation costs. They added that while poultry prices are currently stable, a further increase in production costs could lead to an upward revision in the coming days.

Consumers across Lahore continue to face challenges as food prices fluctuate frequently, affecting household budgets and purchasing power.
