The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has launched a “Go Cashless” campaign across the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha 2026 with the aim of promoting digital payments in cattle markets, reducing the use of cash and promoting a modern financial system. According to the central bank, this initiative is part of the strategy to promote the digital economy and expand financial inclusion in Pakistan.
The announcement issued by the State Bank said that during Eid-ul-Adha, billions of rupees are bought and sold in cattle markets across the country, where most of the transactions are done through cash. Keeping this in mind, the central bank has been taking special steps to promote the use of digital payments during the Eid season for the past few years.
According to the SBP, the “Go Cashless” campaign has been further expanded this year and 96 cattle markets across the country have been included in this campaign this time as compared to 54 cattle markets in 2025. For this purpose, 22 banks have been partnered, which will set up special camps and kiosks in different cattle markets.
According to the central bank, the partner banks will connect traders, transporters and other related business people to the digital payment system. Under this, bank account opening, provision of QR code-based payment system and mobile banking facilities will be provided so that buyers and sellers can easily and securely transact.
According to the announcement, in view of the increased financial transactions during Eid-ul-Adha, the State Bank has also introduced temporary relaxation in the limits of certain accounts and transactions from May 14, 2026 to June 5, 2026 so that the public can make digital payments with greater ease.
The State Bank further said that wherever possible, mobile banking vans, ATMs and cash deposit machines will also be installed around cattle markets so that the public can get instant access to financial services.
According to economists, this move is an important step towards promoting a cashless economy in Pakistan. They say that the use of digital payments will not only increase transparency but also reduce the security risks associated with carrying cash.
The State Bank has urged the public to prioritize mobile banking apps, branchless banking wallets, Raast services and QR code payment systems on the occasion of Eid. According to the central bank, digital payments not only provide convenience but will also help in making Pakistan’s financial system modern, transparent and efficient.
Experts associated with the financial sector say that if the public adopts this campaign positively, the trend of digital payments in Pakistan may further strengthen in the coming years, which will also help in documenting the economy.
