The State Bank of Pakistan has formally announced Eid-ul-Adha holidays, stating that all its offices will remain closed from May 26 to May 28, 2026.

The announcement was made through an official press release issued by the External Communications Department on May 22, informing the public and financial institutions about the upcoming closure.

The central bank said the holidays would be observed from Tuesday to Thursday on account of Eid-ul-Adha celebrations across the country.

The notification is important for banks, businesses, and consumers, as it affects financial transactions, branch operations, and settlement activities during the festive period.

Market observers say holiday announcements by the SBP are closely watched by investors and businesses, especially during major religious occasions when economic activity temporarily shifts from formal markets to retail and consumer spending.

Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, commercial areas, livestock markets, transport hubs, and shopping centres are witnessing increased public activity. Financial institutions typically see higher demand for cash withdrawals and digital payment services during this period.

Customers are being encouraged to use online banking platforms and ATM facilities for routine banking needs while physical branches remain closed.

The SBP has consistently expanded digital payment infrastructure in recent years to ensure uninterrupted access to banking services during weekends and public holidays. Industry experts say this shift has significantly reduced pressure on physical banking channels during festive breaks.

Businesses are also expected to finalise salary disbursements and pending payments before the holiday period begins, particularly in sectors linked to retail, transport, and livestock trade.

Following the Eid holidays, regular operations at the State Bank and other banking institutions are expected to resume on May 29, 2026.
