In a major stride toward public sector modernisation, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) has officially made Artificial Intelligence (AI) training mandatory for all ministry officials and staff members. The initiative, launched in collaboration with global tech giant Google, aims to equip civil servants with essential digital skills to streamline bureaucratic workflows and enhance governance.

Driving Public Sector Efficiency
The decision follows a high-level directive aimed at bridging the gap between traditional governance and modern technological advancements. Under this framework, Google will provide comprehensive, practical training sessions covering data analytics, automated reporting, and productivity-enhancing AI tools.

The move represents a fundamental cultural shift within the federal bureaucracy. Rather than confining technological upskilling to specialised IT personnel, the ministry is integrating digital literacy into the baseline requirements for all administrative tiers.

Aligning with National Objectives
Speaking on the initiative, federal authorities emphasised that upgrading the technical capabilities of the state’s workforce is critical to achieving the broader goals of a “Digital Pakistan”. By automating routine administrative processes, the ministry expects to significantly reduce delays in policy implementation and inter-departmental communication.

“The public sector must evolve alongside the rapid advancements in the global tech landscape. Equipping our human resources with AI capabilities ensures that the state remains agile, efficient, and responsive to the needs of a digital economy.”

The mandatory training programme aligns with the country’s long-term digital transformation strategies, which aim to scale upskilling initiatives nationwide. By pioneering the framework within its own ranks, MoITT intends to establish a blueprint for other federal and provincial ministries to follow in the near future.
