Pakistan’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has released amazing details of its biometric database, which puts it in the ranks of the world’s largest digital institutions. According to a NADRA spokesperson, the organization currently has facial recognition data of 170 million citizens. In addition, the database has stored 1.68 billion fingerprints and 7 million iris scan data, which makes the security and verification process very reliable.

In this modern era of technology, NADRA has revolutionized the “Pak-ID” application. The spokesperson said that this mobile app has now taken 15 percent of NADRA’s overall responsibility on its shoulders, meaning that millions of citizens are now completing the registration process through their mobile phones while sitting at home. The popularity of the PakID app can be gauged from the fact that the number of people who have downloaded it has crossed 12 million.

NADRA has also further improved its facilities for overseas Pakistanis, so that they can register themselves and their families without any difficulty while living abroad. This availability of biometric data is not only proving helpful in preventing crime but is also ensuring transparency in the provision of banking, passport and other government services. NADRA aims to bring 100 percent of the population under the purview of biometric verification in the near future.
