The federal government has announced a welcome reduction in petroleum prices for the next fortnight, providing a degree of relief to Pakistani consumers struggling with high inflation.
Effective from October 16, 2025, the price of petrol (Motor Spirit) has been cut by Rs5.66 per litre, bringing the new price down to Rs263.02 per litre.
| Product | Old Price (Rs/Litre) | New Price (Rs/Litre) | Change (Rs/Litre) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Rs268.68 | Rs263.02 | -5.66 (Decrease) |
| High-Speed Diesel (HSD) | Rs276.81 | Rs275.42 | -1.39 (Decrease) |
| Kerosene Oil (SKO) | Rs184.97 | Rs181.71 | -3.26 (Decrease) |
| Light Diesel Oil (LDO) | Rs165.50 | Rs162.76 | -2.74 (Decrease) |
This fortnightly adjustment is a result of easing international crude oil prices and a stable local currency (Rupee) against the US Dollar.
As a net oil importer, Pakistan’s domestic fuel costs are directly affected by these global factors. While the cut is seen as positive, particularly for the transport sector and household budgets, the government continues to rely on key levies, such as the Petroleum Development Levy (PDL), which are essential for its fiscal stability.
The new prices are effective until the next review scheduled for October 31, 2025.
