The recent sharp increase in the prices of petroleum products had created a wave of concern across the country, but comforting news has emerged from the transport sector. The negotiations between transporters and the concerned authorities have been successful, as a result of which only 3 to 4 percent increase in fares has been agreed upon.
Finding a balance
The main objective of this decision is to protect the interests of both transporters and the public. On the one hand, the increase in fares will reduce the financial pressure faced by transporters, which had increased due to the 7.27 percent increase in petrol prices. On the other hand, efforts have been made to limit the additional burden on the public so that they do not face further difficulties in this period of inflation.
Details of the negotiations
According to sources, Secretary RTA Rana Mohsin and representatives of transporters attended an important meeting held at the Transport House. During the talks, both parties agreed to a modest increase in fares after detailed deliberations, in order to maintain a balance. This decision is being hailed as a prime example of harmony between the public and transporters.
Warning of strict action
RTA Secretary Rana Mohsin clarified that no transporter will be allowed to increase fares arbitrarily. He warned that if any transporter is found charging fares above the prescribed limit of 4 percent, strict legal action will be taken against him. He added that all transporters will display the new fares at prominent places, and immediate implementation will be ensured.
Relief for the public
The public have welcomed this decision, as they were afraid of a huge hike in fares after the increase in petrol prices. This modest increase has provided them some relief, and they can now continue to use transport for their daily movement.
