Digital Revolution: Ufone to Roll Out 5G Services in Major Cities

Pakistan’s journey toward a “Digital Pakistan” reached a new milestone this Tuesday as Ufone received its official 5G commencement letter from the regulator. The move effectively ends the wait for millions of Ufone subscribers who are eager to experience speeds that promise to be up to 100 times faster than current 4G standards.

The PTA’s approval comes after Ufone satisfied the technical requirements at randomized network sites. Industry insiders suggest that Ufone’s initial rollout strategy will mirror its competitors, focusing on high-density urban centers including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, and Peshawar.

Market Dynamics and Expansion

The 5G landscape in Pakistan has evolved rapidly since March 19, 2026, when Jazz and Zong first introduced their services. While Jazz initially covered 180 sites and Zong expanded into 16 cities, Ufone’s entry is expected to drive down consumer pricing through healthy competition.

“The issuance of the commencement letter is more than just a procedural step; it is the starting gun for a new era of mobile commerce and entertainment in Pakistan,” noted a senior telecommunications analyst.

Impact on Allied Industries

The rollout of 5G by a third major carrier is expected to stimulate the smartphone market and the freelance economy. With 480 MHz of spectrum now actively being deployed across the country, the demand for 5G-enabled devices is projected to skyrocket. Ufone’s 180 MHz slice of the spectrum is specifically designed to handle massive data throughput, making it an ideal choice for the burgeoning gaming and remote-work sectors.
