Pakistan Ghee Market Update: Grade-II Oil Prices Reach Rs545 Benchmark

Web Desk 5 hours ago 0

The edible oil and ghee market in Pakistan has entered a period of renewed volatility, with Grade-II oil hitting a new benchmark of Rs545 per litre. This price movement reflects a tightening of the domestic supply chain and a shift in the retail landscape as the 2026 fiscal year progresses.

ProductRetail Price (Approx.)Utility Store Price
Grade-II Cooking OilRs545 / LitreRs440 – Rs490
Banaspati Ghee (1kg)Rs515 – Rs530Rs440 – Rs455
Premium Brand OilRs580 – Rs610Rs520 – Rs540

The Disparity Factor

A critical observation in the current market is the widening gap between open-market prices and those offered at the Utility Stores Corporation (USC). While the USC provides some relief with Grade-II equivalents priced between Rs 440 and Rs 490, the limited availability and long queues mean that the majority of the population remains at the mercy of private retailers charging the Rs 545 rate.

Future Outlook

Market analysts predict that prices will remain elevated through the end of April as global palm oil prices remain sensitive to the ongoing “haggling” in the US-Iran peace talks. Any disruption in maritime corridors could lead to another spike. For now, the focus remains on whether the recent $750 million Eurobond success and improved foreign exchange reserves will eventually translate into a stronger PKR, which could provide the necessary cushion to lower the import cost of edible oils in the coming quarter.
