Shipping Continues Unhindered at Karachi Port Amid Hormuz Tensions

Web Desk 3 days ago 0

Shipping activity at Karachi Port has continued largely uninterrupted despite rising geopolitical tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, with oil tankers maintaining regular arrivals.

A vessel operated by the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, MT Sargodha, recently discharged crude oil sourced from Fujairah, while additional shipments are expected to dock in the coming days.

Officials indicated that while crude oil supplies remain stable, some LNG cargoes have experienced delays due to the evolving situation in the region. If such delays persist, they could pose challenges to Pakistan’s energy supply mix.

Incoming vessels, including MT Shalimar and MT Lahore, are scheduled to berth with crude consignments, helping sustain inflows during a period of heightened uncertainty in global maritime routes.

Meanwhile, outbound and mixed cargo operations have also continued. MT Martini is expected to load fuel oil, while MT Hafnia Henriette and MT Wan HE have handled naphtha and ethanol shipments. MT Eva Gold has already departed after loading ethanol.

Port data reflects sustained activity, with more than 60,000 tonnes of containerised cargo handled along with bulk shipments such as soybean meal imports and rice exports. Total cargo throughput remains close to 80,000 tonnes, with approximately 19 vessels scheduled to berth.

While operations remain stable, officials note that regional developments will continue to be closely monitored for potential impact on maritime trade.
